Summary

CVE-2023-6449 is a vulnerability in the Contact Form 7 plugin for WordPress. It affects versions up to and including 5.8.3. The vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with editor-level capabilities or above to upload arbitrary files on the affected site's server. While remote code execution is unlikely due to htaccess configuration, it can be possible when combined with another vulnerability like local file inclusion. By default, the uploaded files are immediately deleted from the server, but in some cases, other plugins may allow the files to persist, increasing the risk of remote code execution. Organizations using Contact Form 7 should update to a patched version to remediate this vulnerability and prevent potential unauthorized file uploads and subsequent exploitation.
