Summary

CVE-2023-3417, also known as Thunderbird Text Direction Override Unicode Character Vulnerability, affects Thunderbird versions prior to 115.0.1 and 102.13.1. This vulnerability allows the use of a Text Direction Override Unicode Character in filenames, causing an email attachment to appear as a document file when it is actually an executable file. However, newer versions of Thunderbird have implemented a fix that removes the character and displays the correct file extension. The potential danger of this vulnerability lies in the possibility of users unknowingly opening malicious executable files, which could lead to unauthorized access or execution of harmful code on the affected system.
