Summary
CVE-2023-53005 is a vulnerability affecting the Linux kernel. The issue lies within the 'create_hist_field' function, which can return a NULL value when called recursively at trace_events_hist.c:1954. This return value can result in a null pointer dereference if proper checks are not in place. The Linux Verification Center (linuxtesting.org) discovered this vulnerability through their SVACE initiative. This issue has been resolved in the latest kernel version.
