Summary

CVE-2023-49097 is a vulnerability that affects ZITADEL, an identity infrastructure system. The vulnerability allows an attacker to overwrite the Forwarded or X-Forwarded-Host header, which is used to build the button link sent in password reset emails. If a user clicks on the link and is redirected to a malicious site, the attacker can retrieve the secret code and reset the user's password, gaining control of their account. However, accounts with multi-factor authentication (MFA) or passwordless enabled are not vulnerable. The issue has been patched in versions 2.41.6, 2.40.10, and 2.39.9 of ZITADEL. The potential danger of this vulnerability lies in unauthorized access to user accounts and potential data breaches for organizations using affected versions of ZITADEL.
