Summary

CVE-2023-45140 is a cyber vulnerability that affects The Bastion, a system that provides authentication, authorization, traceability, and auditability for SSH accesses. The vulnerability specifically impacts the SCP and SFTP plugins within The Bastion, where group-based JIT MFA (Just-In-Time Multi-Factor Authentication) is not enforced. This means that establishing an SCP/SFTP connection through The Bastion using a group access with MFA does not prompt for an additional factor. However, it is important to note that other MFA setup types are not affected. The issue has been addressed in version 3.14.15 of The Bastion software. This vulnerability has a base severity rating of MEDIUM and requires high privileges and user interaction for exploitation. While the impact on integrity and confidentiality is low, the potential danger to organizations lies in unauthorized access to SSH connections without proper authentication measures in place.
