Summary
CVE-2023-36192 is a newly discovered heap buffer overflow vulnerability affecting the packet capture tool, Sngrep, in its version 1.6.0. This issue occurs within the function "capture_ws_check_packet" located at "/src/capture.c". An attacker can exploit this vulnerability by crafting maliciously crafted packets, leading to an unintended application of heap memory beyond its boundaries. Successful exploitation could result in the execution of arbitrary code or a denial-of-service condition, posing a significant threat to affected systems. It is highly recommended that users upgrade to the latest version of Sngrep to mitigate this risk.
