Summary

CVE-2023-34242 is a vulnerability affecting Cilium prior to version 1.13.4, a networking, observability, and security solution with an eBPF-based dataplane. The issue arises when Gateway API is enabled in Cilium, allowing for the unintentional visibility of secrets and services across namespaces due to the absence of a check on the namespace when creating a ReferenceGrant. This vulnerability poses a potential danger to organizations as it allows attackers on affected clusters to gain access to cluster secrets and communicate with unauthorized services. The vulnerability has been fixed in Cilium release 1.13.4, and as a workaround, restricting the creation of `ReferenceGrant` resources to admin users using Kubernetes RBAC is recommended.
