Summary

CVE-2023-31190 is an Improper Authentication vulnerability that affects the DroneScout ds230 Remote ID receiver from BlueMark Innovations. The vulnerability exists during the firmware update process, where the TLS certificate of the HTTPS endpoint is not properly validated. This allows an attacker in a Man-in-the-Middle position to trick the device into installing malicious firmware containing arbitrary files and gaining root privileges on the underlying Linux operating system. The affected firmware versions are from 20211210-1627 through 20230329-1042. This vulnerability has a high severity rating, with a CVSS score of 8.1, posing a significant danger to organizations using the affected products if exploited.
