Summary
CVE-2024-6505 is a newly identified vulnerability affecting the virtio-net device in QEMU. When the Receive Side Scaling (RSS) feature is enabled on the virtio-net network card, the indirections_table data within RSS becomes manipulable. Malicious users with privileged access in the guest system can exploit this flaw by setting excessively large values, leading to an index out-of-bounds issue. This vulnerability has the potential to result in a heap overflow access, allowing the guest to crash the QEMU process on the host.
