Summary

CVE-2024-36257 is a vulnerability affecting Mattermost versions 9.5.x up to 9.5.5 and 9.8.0. During the use of shared channels with multiple remote servers, these versions fail to properly verify that the remote server requesting an update to a user's profile picture is the one that actually has the user as a local member. This allows a malicious remote server to manipulate the profile pictures of users from other connected servers, potentially leading to security concerns and unauthorized modifications.
