Summary

CVE-2024-6297 is a critical cyber vulnerability affecting several plugins for WordPress hosted on WordPress.org. These plugins have been compromised by a malicious threat actor who injected malicious PHP scripts into the source code. The injected code allows for the exfiltration of database credentials and creates new, malicious administrator users who send data back to a server. At present, not all affected plugins have been patched, so it is strongly advised to uninstall these plugins and conduct a complete malware scan. The vulnerability has a risk score of 65 and poses a high danger to organizations as it can lead to unauthorized access, data breaches, and potential compromise of websites hosted on WordPress.
