Details
Summary
CVE-2024-32876 is a vulnerability affecting versions 0.13.4 through 0.26.1 of the Android app, NewPipe. This vulnerability allows for Arbitrary Code Execution when importing a backup file from an untrusted source. The app's backup files are serialized/deserialized using Java's Object Serialization Stream Protocol, which can be exploited to construct any class in the app unless properly restricted. To exploit this vulnerability, an attacker would need to create a malicious backup file and convince a user to import it. This could result in the execution of malicious code, potentially leading to crashes, data theft, and unauthorized actions through Android APIs. The danger lies in the possibility of Android JVM/Sandbox escapes through vulnerabilities in the Android OS.
