Summary

CVE-2024-3183 is a vulnerability affecting FreeIPA where encrypted Kerberos TGS-REQ tickets are vulnerable to decryption. Although the client's session key, which is different for each session, protects it from brute force attacks, the ticket itself is encrypted using the target principal key directly. For user principals, this key is derived from a hash of a public per-principal salt and the user's password. Compromise of a principal results in the attacker's ability to decrypt tickets encrypted to any principal, potentially enabling offline brute force attacks against those principals to find and decrypt their corresponding tickets.
