Summary

CVE-2024-29893 is a vulnerability affecting all versions of ArgoCD starting from v2.4. The vulnerability allows for a Denial-of-Service attack on the ArgoCD repo-server component by pointing it to a malicious Helm registry, causing an out of memory error and crashing the server. The loadRepoIndex() function in ArgoCD's helm package does not have limitations on the size or time while fetching data, leading to continuous memory allocation until it is depleted. A patch has been released to address this vulnerability in versions v2.10.3, v2.9.8, and v2.8.12. The potential danger posed to organizations is high as it can disrupt the availability of the ArgoCD service.
