Summary

CVE-2024-28860 is a vulnerability affecting Cilium, a networking, observability, and security solution. The issue pertains to IPsec transparent encryption in Cilium, which could become ineffective due to cryptographic attacks. A man-in-the-middle attacker can exploit this vulnerability by causing ESP sequence number collisions among multiple nodes using the same key. Consequences include chosen plaintext, key recovery, and replay attacks. These vulnerabilities are mitigated in Cilium's fixed versions: 1.13.13, 1.14.9, and 1.15.3, which implement unique keys for each IPsec tunnel to prevent sequence number collisions.
