Details
Summary
Vulnerability CVE-2024-28253 affects the OpenMetadata platform, specifically the `CompiledRule::validateExpression` function called from `PolicyRepository.prepare`. This vulnerability allows an attacker to execute remote code by sending a PUT request to `/api/v1/policies` which is handled by `PolicyResource.createOrUpdate()`. Although there is an authorization check, it occurs after the SpEL expression has been evaluated, making it ineffective. The vulnerability has been addressed in version 1.3.1 of OpenMetadata and users are advised to upgrade to mitigate the risk. This vulnerability poses a high danger to organizations as it can lead to remote code execution, compromising the integrity and confidentiality of data.
