Summary

CVE-2024-28183 is a Time-of-Check to Time-of-Use (TOCTOU) vulnerability found in the ESP-IDF bootloader, which is the development framework for Espressif SoCs on Windows, Linux, and macOS. This vulnerability could be exploited by an attacker with physical access to the device's flash memory to bypass anti-rollback protection. This allows the attacker to boot past an application partition with a lower security version, even with flash encryption. The vulnerability has been fixed in versions 4.4.7 and 5.2.1 of ESP-IDF. The impact score of this vulnerability is 5.2 out of 10, with high integrity and confidentiality impacts but no availability impact.
