Summary

CVE-2024-28179 is a vulnerability in Jupyter Server Proxy that allows unauthenticated remote access to any websocket endpoint accessible via Jupyter Server Proxy. This vulnerability affects versions prior to 3.2.3 and 4.1.1 of Jupyter Server Proxy. It can potentially lead to remote unauthenticated arbitrary code execution, posing a high risk to organizations using affected instances that rely on websockets. However, the websocket endpoints exposed by `jupyter_server` itself are not affected, and projects that do not rely on websockets are also not impacted. The issue has been fixed in versions 3.2.3 and 4.1.1 of Jupyter Server Proxy, and organizations should update their software to remediate this vulnerability.
