Summary

CVE-2024-27305 is a vulnerability in the aiosmtpd software, a reimplementation of the Python stdlib smtpd.py based on asyncio. This vulnerability allows for inbound SMTP smuggling, which is an exploitation of interpretation differences in the SMTP protocol. By exploiting this vulnerability, an attacker can send smuggled or spoofed emails with fake sender addresses, potentially enabling advanced phishing attacks. The issue also exists in other SMTP software like Postfix. The vulnerability has been addressed in version 1.4.5 of aiosmtpd, and users are advised to upgrade to this version as there are no known workarounds.
