Summary
CVE-2024-24830 is a vulnerability found in the OpenObserve observability platform. The vulnerability allows an authenticated regular user to add new users with elevated privileges, including the root role, to an organization. This bypasses the intended security controls for role assignments. The vulnerability resides in the user creation process, where the payload does not validate user roles, allowing a regular user to manipulate the payload and assign root-level privileges. This unauthorized privilege escalation compromises the application's role-based access control system and poses a significant risk to data security. All users, especially those in administrative roles, are affected by this issue. The vulnerability has been addressed in release version 0.8.0, and users are advised to update their systems to remediate this issue.
