Summary
CVE-2024-23174 is a newly disclosed Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting MediaWiki's PageTriage extension. The issue exists in versions prior to 1.35.14, 1.36.x through 1.39.x before 1.39.6, and 1.40.x before 1.40.2. Malicious users can exploit this flaw by injecting malicious scripts into messages such as rev-deleted-user, pagetriage-tags-quickfilter-label, pagetriage-triage, and others. Successful attacks could lead to unintended execution of malicious code in users' web browsers. MediaWiki users are advised to update their installations to mitigate this risk.
