Summary
CVE-2024-21342 is a newly disclosed Denial of Service (DoS) vulnerability affecting the Windows DNS (Domain Name System) Client. This issue permits an attacker to send specially crafted DNS response packets that trigger the client to consume excessive system resources, resulting in a denial of service condition. The vulnerability can be exploited remotely and does not require user interaction, making it potentially dangerous for networks that rely on the Windows DNS Client service. Microsoft is currently working on a patch to address this vulnerability and users are advised to apply it as soon as it becomes available.
