Summary
CVE-2024-20327 is a newly identified vulnerability affecting the PPPoE termination feature of Cisco IOS XR Software on Cisco ASR 9000 Series Aggregation Services Routers. This issue allows unauthenticated, adjacent attackers to send malformed PPPoE packets to an affected line card interface that does not terminate PPPoE. By exploiting this vulnerability, attackers can crash the ppp_ma process, leading to a denial of service (DoS) condition for PPPoE traffic across the router. The cause of this vulnerability is the improper handling of such packets by the affected software.
