Summary

CVE-2024-20278 is a vulnerability in the NETCONF feature of Cisco IOS XE Software that allows an authenticated, remote attacker to gain root privileges on an affected device. The vulnerability arises from improper validation of user-supplied input. By sending crafted input over NETCONF, an attacker can exploit this vulnerability and elevate their privileges from Administrator to root. This vulnerability affects multiple products, and the danger it poses to organizations is high as it allows unauthorized access and control over affected devices. To remediate this vulnerability, users are advised to apply the necessary updates and patches provided by Cisco.
