Summary
CVE-2024-20278 is a newly identified vulnerability affecting the NETCONF feature in Cisco IOS XE Software. This issue permits authenticated, remote attackers to escalate privileges from Administrator to root level on vulnerable devices. The root cause of this vulnerability lies in insufficient input validation, enabling an attacker to send specially crafted data through the NETCONF interface. A successful exploit could lead to complete takeover of the affected system.
