Summary

CVE-2024-20262 is a vulnerability in the Secure Copy Protocol (SCP) and SFTP feature of Cisco IOS XR Software. It could allow an authenticated, local attacker to create or overwrite files in a system directory, potentially leading to a denial of service (DoS) condition. The vulnerability occurs due to a lack of proper validation of SCP and SFTP CLI input parameters. To exploit it, an attacker would need valid user credentials and could impact the functionality of the device, requiring manual reboot for recovery. This vulnerability is exploitable when a local user with administrative privileges invokes SCP or SFTP commands at the Cisco IOS XR CLI.
