Summary
CVE-2024-20262 is a vulnerability affecting the Secure Copy Protocol (SCP) and SFTP feature of Cisco IOS XR Software. An authenticated, local attacker can create or overwrite files in a system directory, leading to a denial of service (DoS) condition. This vulnerability arises due to insufficient validation of SCP and SFTP command-line interface (CLI) input parameters. An attacker could exploit this issue by authenticating to the device and issuing specific SCP or SFTP CLI commands. The potential impact includes disrupted functionality, necessitating a manual device reboot to recover. The vulnerability can only be exploited when a local user initiates SCP or SFTP commands at the Cisco IOS XR CLI, and in certain conditions, a local user with administrative privileges may exploit it remotely.
