Summary

CVE-2024-1931 is a vulnerability found in NLnet Labs Unbound version 1.18.0 up to and including version 1.19.1 that can lead to denial of service through an infinite loop. This vulnerability occurs when Unbound replies with attached Extended DNS Error (EDE) information on a positive reply and the client's buffer size is smaller than the needed space to include EDE records. To trigger this vulnerability, the 'ede: yes' option must be used, which is a non-default configuration. The issue has been fixed in version 1.19.2 to prevent indefinite looping. This vulnerability poses a high risk with a base severity rating of 7.5 and an availability impact rating of HIGH according to CVSS:3.1 scoring system.
