Summary

CVE-2024-0761 is a vulnerability that affects the File Manager plugin for WordPress versions up to and including 7.2.1. The vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to extract sensitive information, including site backups, in configurations where the .htaccess file does not block access. The backup filenames generated by the plugin use a timestamp plus four random digits, but the randomness is insufficient, making it exploitable. To remediate this vulnerability, users should update their File Manager plugin to a version beyond 7.2.1 or remove the plugin if it is not necessary. This vulnerability poses a high danger to organizations as it can lead to unauthorized access and exposure of sensitive data, potentially compromising the security and integrity of their WordPress websites.
