Details
Summary
CVE-2023-6994 is a vulnerability in the List category posts plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions up to and including 0.89.3. The vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to exploit Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) by injecting arbitrary web scripts through the plugin's 'catlist' shortcode. Insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user supplied attributes enable the execution of these injected scripts whenever a user accesses an affected page. The potential danger of this vulnerability lies in the ability for attackers to execute malicious code, potentially resulting in unauthorized access, data theft, or further compromise of the affected WordPress site. To remediate this vulnerability, users are advised to update to a patched version of the List category posts plugin that addresses the XSS flaw.
