Summary

CVE-2023-6908 is a newly identified vulnerability affecting DFIRKuiper's TAR Archive Handler component in version 2.3.4. The issue lies within the unzip_file function of case_management.py, where the dst_path argument undergoes path traversal, potentially enabling attackers to manipulate file locations. This vulnerability is remotely exploitable, though the complexity and exploitability levels are considered high and difficult, respectively. Upgrading to version 2.3.5, with patch identifier 94fa135153002f651f5526c55a7240e083db8d73, is the recommended solution. VDB-248277 has been assigned to this vulnerability.
