Summary
CVE-2023-6857 is a vulnerability affecting Firefox and Thunderbird browsers on Unix-based operating systems. During the resolution of a symbolic link, a race condition can occur, enabling an attacker to write data into a smaller-than-expected buffer passed to the `readlink` function. This issue can lead to arbitrary code execution and potential security breaches. The vulnerability impacts Firefox ESR versions below 115.6, Thunderbird versions below 115.6, and Firefox versions below 121. Windows operating systems are not affected.
