Summary

CVE-2023-6225 is a vulnerability found in the WP Shortcodes Plugin — Shortcodes Ultimate plugin for WordPress, affecting all versions up to and including 5.13.3. The vulnerability allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to inject arbitrary web scripts in pages using the su_meta shortcode combined with post meta data. This can lead to stored cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks, where the injected scripts execute when users access the affected pages. To remediate this vulnerability, users should update their plugin to a version beyond 5.13.3, which includes sufficient input sanitization and output escaping to prevent XSS attacks. This vulnerability poses a medium risk, with a base severity score of 6.4 out of 10, and low privileges required for exploitation.
