Summary

CVE-2023-5992 is a vulnerability affecting OpenSC, a popular open-source cryptography library. The issue lies in the lack of side-channel resistance in the PKCS#1 encryption padding removal process. This weakness may allow an attacker to potentially extract sensitive information, including private keys, through side-channel attacks. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could lead to serious security implications, such as unauthorized access to encrypted data or impersonation of trusted entities. Users are strongly advised to update their OpenSC installations to the latest version as soon as possible to mitigate this risk.
