Summary

CVE-2023-5817 is a vulnerability that affects the Neon text plugin for WordPress in all versions up to and including 1.1. The vulnerability is due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user supplied attributes, specifically the color attribute in the neontext_box shortcode. This allows attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to inject arbitrary web scripts, leading to stored cross-site scripting attacks. The risk score for this vulnerability is 25, with a base severity of MEDIUM. Remediation can be done by updating the affected Neon text plugin to a version that includes proper input sanitization and output escaping.
