Details
Summary
CVE-2023-5662 is a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Sponsors plugin for WordPress. The flaw, present in all versions up to 3.5.0, allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level permissions or higher to inject malicious scripts via the plugin's 'sponsors' shortcode. Insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes are the root causes of this issue. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to execute arbitrary web scripts whenever a user accesses an injected page. This poses a significant risk to websites using the vulnerable plugin version. Upgrading to the latest version as soon as possible is recommended to mitigate this threat.
