Summary
CVE-2023-5357 is a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Instagram for WordPress plugin for WordPress. This issue, present in versions up to 2.1.6, arises due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in shortcodes. Consequently, authenticated attackers with contributor-level permissions or higher can inject malicious web scripts that execute whenever a user visits an injected page. This vulnerability poses a significant risk to websites using the Instagram for WordPress plugin and necessitates immediate updating to a patched version to mitigate the threat.
