Summary

CVE-2023-52076 is a vulnerability that affects versions of Atril Document Viewer prior to 1.26.2, which is the default document reader for the MATE desktop environment in Linux. This vulnerability allows for path traversal and arbitrary file write, enabling an attacker to write arbitrary files anywhere on the filesystem as long as the user opening a crafted document has access. The limitation is that existing files cannot be overwritten, but it still poses a risk of remote command execution on the target system. The vulnerability can be remediated by updating to version 1.26.2 of Atril, which contains a patch for this issue.
