Summary
CVE-2023-5161 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Modal Window plugin for WordPress. This issue, found in versions up to 5.3.5, allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level and above permissions to inject malicious scripts. The vulnerability arises due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes within shortcodes. Successful exploitation enables attackers to execute arbitrary web scripts whenever a user accesses an injected page.
