Summary

CVE-2023-5116 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the Live updates from Excel plugin for WordPress. The flaw, present in versions up to and including 2.3.2, stems from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in the 'ipushpull_page' shortcode. This allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level permissions and above to inject arbitrary web scripts, which get executed whenever a user accesses an injected page. The vulnerability poses a significant risk, as it can lead to data theft, unauthorized account access, or other malicious activities. To mitigate this issue, users are advised to update the plugin to the latest version or consider disabling the 'ipushpull_page' shortcode until a patch is available.
