Summary
CVE-2023-4999 is a SQL Injection vulnerability found in the Horizontal scrolling announcement plugin for WordPress. The vulnerability exists in versions up to and including 9.2 and is due to insufficient escaping on user-supplied parameters and lack of preparation on the existing SQL query. Authenticated attackers with subscriber-level and above permissions can exploit this vulnerability to append additional SQL queries into existing queries, potentially extracting sensitive information from the database. The vulnerability has a high base severity score of 8.8 according to NIST, indicating a significant potential danger to organizations. To remediate this vulnerability, users should update to a patched version of the plugin when it becomes available.
