Summary

CVE-2023-49096 is a vulnerability affecting Jellyfin, a Free Software Media System used for managing and streaming media. The vulnerability lies in the VideosController and AudioController endpoints, specifically the `/Videos/<itemId>/stream` and `/Videos/<itemId>/stream.<container>` endpoints, which can be accessed by an unauthenticated user. The vulnerability allows for argument injection through certain query parameters, such as videoCodec and audioCodec. However, exploitation of this vulnerability is highly unlikely without additional information leakage, as it requires guessing a random GUID itemId. While the vulnerability poses a risk to organizations using Jellyfin, the instance needs to be accessible from the Internet and have a large media database with numerous items for successful exploitation. Remediating this vulnerability involves applying the latest patches or updates provided by Jellyfin to fix the argument injection issue.
