Summary
CVE-2023-49083 is a vulnerability affecting the cryptography package used in Python for cryptographic primitives and recipes. The issue lies in the functions `load_pem_pkcs7_certificates` and `load_der_pkcs7_certificates`, which can result in a NULL-pointer dereference and subsequent segfault. Maliciously crafted PKCS7 blobs/certificates can trigger this vulnerability, posing a significant risk of Denial of Service (DoS) for applications deserializing the affected data. The consequences of exploitation can lead to disruptions in system availability and stability. This vulnerability has been addressed and patched in version 41.0.6.
