Summary

CVE-2023-49080 is a vulnerability that affects the Jupyter Server, which is used as the backend for Jupyter web applications such as Jupyter notebook and JupyterLab. The vulnerability allows authenticated users to trigger unhandled errors in API requests, which can reveal sensitive path information. However, the paths revealed are not considered particularly sensitive since the user already has arbitrary execution permissions in the same environment. The issue has been fixed in version 2.11.2 of the Jupyter Server by removing traceback information in JSON error responses. Users are advised to upgrade to this version to mitigate the vulnerability. There are no known workarounds for this issue. The vulnerability has a base severity rating of MEDIUM with a base score of 4.3 according to [email protected], and it poses a low confidentiality impact and does not require high privileges or user interaction for exploitation.
