Summary

CVE-2023-48707 is a vulnerability in the authentication and authorization provider CodeIgniter Shield for CodeIgniter 4. In affected versions, the important 'secretKey' value used for HMAC SHA256 authentication was stored in the database in cleartext form. If an attacker gains access to the database, they could use the key and secretKey to send requests impersonating a corresponding user. The vulnerability has been addressed in version 1.0.0-beta.8, and users are advised to upgrade. There are no known workarounds for this vulnerability. The vulnerability has a base severity of MEDIUM with a base score of 6.5 according to NIST's CVSS scoring system, indicating a potential high impact on confidentiality.
