Summary
CVE-2023-4680 is a vulnerability affecting HashiCorp Vault and Vault Enterprise's transit secrets engine. This issue allowed authorized users to specify arbitrary nonces, even with convergent encryption disabled. Consequently, the encrypt endpoint, in conjunction with an offline attack, could be exploited to decrypt arbitrary ciphertext, increasing the risk of potential authentication subkey derivation. This vulnerability was introduced in version 1.6.0 and was addressed in subsequent releases 1.14.3, 1.13.7, and 1.12.11.
