Summary
CVE-2023-4680 is a cyber vulnerability that affects HashiCorp Vault and Vault Enterprise transit secrets engine. It allowed authorized users to specify arbitrary nonces, even with convergent encryption disabled. This vulnerability could be exploited through the encrypt endpoint, using an offline attack to decrypt arbitrary ciphertext and potentially derive the authentication subkey when using transit secrets engine without convergent encryption. The affected versions are 1.6.0, and it has been fixed in versions 1.14.3, 1.13.7, and 1.12.11. The potential danger posed by this vulnerability includes the compromise of confidentiality and integrity of data stored in HashiCorp Vault instances within an organization's network infrastructure.
