Summary

CVE-2023-46604 is a critical vulnerability in the Java OpenWire protocol marshaller that allows remote code execution. This vulnerability affects Java-based OpenWire brokers and clients, allowing a remote attacker with network access to run arbitrary shell commands by manipulating serialized class types in the OpenWire protocol. The recommended remediation is to upgrade both brokers and clients to version 5.15.16, 5.16.7, 5.17.6, or 5.18.3, which addresses this issue. The potential danger posed by this vulnerability is that it can be exploited by attackers to execute malicious code and potentially gain unauthorized access to an organization's systems or data.
