Summary

CVE-2023-45806 is a vulnerability affecting Discourse, an open source platform for community discussion. The vulnerability exists in versions prior to 3.1.3 of the stable branch and versions 3.2.0.beta3 of the beta and tests-passed branches. Exploiting this vulnerability allows a user who has been quoted and uses a "|" character in their full name to generate duplicate content in all the posts they've been quoted by updating their full name again. The issue has been patched in version 3.1.3 of the stable branch and version 3.2.0.beta3 of the beta and tests-passed branches. There is no known workaround, but ensuring users only use alphanumeric characters in their full name field can mitigate the risk posed by this vulnerability. The CVSS score for this vulnerability is 5.4, indicating a medium severity with low privileges required, no user interaction needed, and a network attack vector.
