Summary

CVE-2023-45283 affects the filepath package, which fails to recognize paths with a "\\??\\" prefix as special on Windows systems. These paths are equivalent to Root Local Device paths and can be used to access arbitrary locations on the system. The vulnerability allows manipulation of paths in Clean and Join functions, potentially resulting in unintended access to sensitive files or directories. The recent updates of Go 1.20.11 and Go 1.21.4 inadvertently changed the behavior of these functions, leading to unwanted results. The previous definition of the volume name in Windows paths has been restored to mitigate the issue.
