CVE-2023-4501

Summary

CVE-2023-4501 is a vulnerability affecting OpenText (Micro Focus) Visual COBOL, COBOL Server, Enterprise Developer, and Enterprise Server, and their product variants, including Enterprise Test Server. These versions 7.0 patch updates 19 and 20, 8.0 patch updates 8 and 9, and 9.0 patch update 1, are susceptible when LDAP-based authentication is used with specific configurations. This issue renders username and password credentials ineffective, allowing unauthorized access, as authentication can succeed with any valid username and potentially an invalid one. OpenText is releasing a patch update to resolve the vulnerability, and workarounds are available through their support. The configurations believed to be vulnerable are considered uncommon. Administrators can test their installations for this issue by attempting to sign on with a valid username and incorrect password.
