Summary

CVE-2023-44393 is a reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability found in Piwigo, an open source photo gallery application. The vulnerability exists in the `/admin.php?page=plugins&tab=new&installstatus=ok&plugin_id=[here]` page and affects version 14.0.0beta4 and earlier. It allows an attacker to inject malicious HTML and JS code into the HTML page, which can be executed by admin users when they visit a specially crafted URL. The vulnerability occurs due to the insecure injection of the `plugin_id` value from the URL into the HTML page. Only users logged in as administrators are affected, and any attacker with access to a malicious URL can exploit this vulnerability. To remediate the issue, users should update to a version later than 14.0.0beta4 where the vulnerability has been patched. The potential danger to organizations is high as an attacker could manipulate the vulnerable page to steal sensitive information or perform unauthorized actions on behalf of administrators.
