Summary

CVE-2023-44378 is a vulnerability in the gnark zk-SNARK library prior to version 0.9.0. This vulnerability allows for the construction of two valid decompositions to bits for certain in-circuit values, including a second decomposition for `a+r`. The second decomposition occurs due to overflowing the field where the values are defined. To remediate this issue, it is recommended to upgrade to version 0.9.0 of gnark, which should fix the problem without requiring changes to value comparison methods. This vulnerability has a base severity of MEDIUM and an exploitability score of 1.8 out of 10, with low privileges required and no user interaction needed.
